the student experience
The Higher Education Financial Wellness Summit (HEFWS) is a conference that, since its inception, has been a venue traditionally for professionals looking to grow or build their student financial wellness and education efforts across their campuses. In 2019, we seek to expand our offerings to student attendees by creating a space where students can learn in the same vein.
The inclusion of students into our conference offerings would contribute to the community engagement and continue to expand the financial wellness conversation further across the country. The HEFW Student Experience would be largely focused around a full-day, pre-conference workshop where students can interact with one another to:
Learn from speakers for training/development purposes
Learn from each other about the financial wellness practices across different campuses
Strengthen financial wellness peer programs in early development
Share ideas on how to build/improve more established programs and develop best practices.
Saturday, July 13, 2019: The Student Experience will offer a full-day workshop
Sunday, July 14, 2019: Student-specific Sessions
The Student Start-Up Institute
Summit Advisory Panel Discussion
Monday, July 15 - Tuesday, July 16, 2019: The remainder of the HEFW Summit, during which students will be provided a select list of student-focused options to attend
how to attend the student experience
All students will be required to submit applications to attend The HEFW Student Experience. They will be asked to submit both a written and video portion as part of their application along with a letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member. The selection committee will select students to attend The HEFW Student Experience. Students who are accepted and receive a scholarship will receive the benefits listed on this page. Those accepted who do not receive a scholarship will need to pay the $150 registration fee (which allows the student to attend both The Student Experience and Summit) and cover their own travel expenses. The Summit will provide the same meals listed as part of the scholarship package.
We encourage applications from students who are involved in financial wellness peer programs, those who have a stake in building programs or those wanting to develop financial wellness initiatives in their campus communities, as well as student leaders and students who are actively engaged in advocacy on their campuses.
The Student Experience takes place all day Saturday, July 13 and in the morning on Sunday, July 14 until 12:00pm EDT. Students are welcome to attend HEFW Pre-Conference sessions that begin after The Student Experience ends between 1:00-4:00pm EDT on Sunday. However, to attend one of the Pre-Conference sessions, students will be expected to pay the $40 attendance rate. The HEFW Summit will begin with an opening keynote speaker at 5:00pm EDT on July 14.
The second round of applications will open February 4, 2019.
Please note that all recommender forms will be sent out after the application deadline.
